Write for us
Emerald Knowledge welcomes thoughtful proposals that help general readers understand an idea, a connection or a way of learning more clearly. We favour focused subjects with a clear question and a specific reason to be covered.
What to propose
We consider explanatory essays, comparisons, accounts of how an idea developed, examinations of common misconceptions and guides to thinking through a subject. A strong proposal names its central question, explains the intended reader and shows what the piece will make clearer without promising more than it can support.
A useful pitch
Send a working title, a short summary of the proposed argument and a few lines about the material or reasoning the piece will use. Tell us whether the proposal has been published or sent elsewhere. A complete draft is not needed at the proposal stage.
Voice and care
Write plainly without making an idea seem simpler than it is. Define specialist language, separate illustration from evidence and flag uncertainty or limits. We welcome fresh framing and careful explanation, not generic advice or claims of expertise unsupported by the proposal.
Sending a proposal
Send proposals through the Contact page and choose the editorial question option. Please do not include confidential information. A proposal is not a guarantee of publication, and any commissioned work will be discussed before drafting.
Understanding begins with careful attention
An explanation can open a subject without closing it. We make room for distinctions, connections and the questions that remain.
